Seriously Strong Spreadable Squares...

My BzzAgent pack for the new Seriously Strong Spreadable Squares has just arrived!

Inside is the usual BzzAgent intro card along with a promotional flyer with serving suggestions, 1 coupon for a free pack and 3 x 75p off vouchers.

The claim is an 'ultimate cheddar taste just spreadable' so I can't wait to try it out.

There's 8 foil-wrapped squares in each pack and there's two varieties available; original cheddar and lighter (30% less fat).

Just bought my pack...

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to unwrap the little squares, and very impressed that none of the product stuck to the foil, not even a little bit. As with other similar products, the spread felt quite firm to the touch but was easily spreadable on even the most fragile of cream crackers. A little goes quite a long way, further than you think actually. If, like me, you don't like too much spread on your crackers you can cover 6 standard sized crackers with just one square, which is impressive.

Here's what I achieved with just one square:
  • Cheese and pesto
  • Plain cheese
  • Cheese and salad leaves
  • Cheese and cucumber
  • Cheese and tomato
  • Cheese and onion

I'd bought the 'lighter' version which was a very mild cheesy taste (I assume the original version is cheesier). Was expecting a stronger taste, especially given it's from the Seriously Strong range, but you could just about taste it.

I was 'dared' to eat a square with a piece of 70% chocolate. Quite why I agreed to this I'm not entirely sure, but I gave it a go. While it wasn't quite as stomach-churning as I anticipated, I won't be repeating it! Maybe it's just an acquired taste.

Vaseline Vaseline Radiance Restore Healing Serum (200ml)

I was asked to review this tube of Vaseline Vaseline Radiance Restore Healing Serum (200ml) by BzzAgent, and here are my observations:

The Vaseline brand is extremely well respected so I knew the product wouldn't be of an inferior quality. I often use cocoa butter on my skin, so I was looking forward to testing this serum out on my skin as there was cocoa butter in it.

The serum (cream) is white with a pleasant scent but nothing I can specifically put my finger on, which is actually quite strong (some people may find it too strong but I was ok with it). I think I expected to smell the cocoa butter, but I couldn't. It sank into my skin almost instantly and didn't leave any kind of residue despite it having 'micro droplets of vaseline jelly'. A little goes a long way so it's actually very good value for money.

I used the serum on my hands and feet on a daily basis for just over a week and can already see and feel the positive results. My hands feel much softer and actually look younger, and my feet are silky smooth.

I also used it after getting sunburn on my arms, and it really seemed to help with the soothing and healing process. I certainly didn't peel as much as I usually do afterwards. I then decided to give it a go on my stretch marks and cellulite, and after just a few days there were a subtle improvement with both. It seemed to improve the elasticity of my skin as well as improving the overall look of it. I have no idea how they measure their claim that it has 10 times healing power, but it did seem to heal my skin.

The only negative thing I have to say is that information and instructions on the back of the tube were almost impossible to read, however the white writing on the front was very readable.

Product description from the Boots website: Super Serum

This isn't a laser treatment but it will give you intense action and target wrinkles, skin firmness and skin texture leaving your skin feeling smoother, plumper and looking more even. Advanced anti-ageing care for visible results in 4 weeks.
Revitalift Laser Renew contains a naturally-derived glycan (or complex sugar)-Pro-Xylane, which has been proven in a 6 month study to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet wrinkles, boost skin density and improve bounce.
This wonder molecule has been combined with two other powerhouse active ingredients, LHA (Lipohydroxy acid) a smart exfoliating ingredient and fragmented Hyaluronic acid, a moisturising ingredient to boost the effects of the formula.
The luxurious texture has been proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and roughness in a test with a CO2 fractional laser session. The results are convincing-the test revealed that Revitalift Laser Renew resulted in an 18% improvement in roughness and the CO2 fractional laser session resulted in a 20% improvement. There was a 14% reduction in the appearance of wrinkle depth with Laser Renew and a 17% decrease with the CO2 fractional laser session.

The verdict:

Both containers are made of glass and are quite a bit heavier than I expected. The lid on the cream mask, and the little lid inside, are of a visibly high quality. The nozzle on the serum also looks very good quality. In fact, both items look like they belong in a luxury range of beauty products. I especially liked the red and black colour combination as it sat on my dressing table.

The instructions and other information is all on the outside of the boxes.

The cream was thick and silky and smelt really nice. For whatever reason I felt that it never fully absorbed into my skin and I always felt I had residue on my face. A little goes a long way and even with using very small amounts I still felt that my skin was never quite 'dry'.

The serum is white and is only very faintly scented. That also tends to sit on top of the skin for quite some time, rather than being absorbed quickly. I wouldn't want to be putting on any make-up after using this product, or at least, not for an hour or so. If you apply this serum right before going to bed you may end up with a greasy pillow.

After just a few days my skin was feeling a lot softer and looking smoother, especially on my forehead where my frown lines have definitely improved.

Out of the two products I much preferred the cream, although the serum was ok for very dry areas. Would I buy it? Probably not, although I'd use it again if I received it as a gift.

How to Use

Product Uses

Shake well before use. Keep the product upright. Apply to dry, styled hair. Hold can approx. 10cm from hair & spray roots in a light stream. Don't overspray. A small amount is enough.

The Verdict!

The good news is, it covered my greys.

The bad news is that it covered my hair, as well as my middle parting, with a dark-ish brown chalky substance that created an unwelcome dark stripe on top of my head!

I shook the can vigorously before applying a fine mist (which also created unwelcome brown spots on my sink, my white bath towel nearby and my white wall) onto my pre-brushed hairline.

Despite choosing the lightest colour they make (light blonde) it was still far too dark against my very light blonde dyed tresses. It looked ludicrous and felt dry and chalky as if I'd literally taken a child's brown chalk and rubbed it onto my scalp.

Maybe this product is good with much darker hair, and therefore more obvious greys, but there's no way I'm ever going to use it again.

Luckily it does wash out!

Sure Compressed Cotton Dry Deodorant

My new product trial is Sure Compressed Deodorant!

My package has arrived.
A box in a box!

Open the inner box...

The blurb...

So............ basically I use the 250ml can to spray
under my right arm,
then spray the compressed 125ml version
under my left arm.
In theory, both cans should last the
same length of time.

Right! Now the verdict!

The larger (250ml) can definitely had a powerful spray (and comparatively noisy) whereas the smaller (125ml) compressed can had a far gentler (quieter) action. In fact, despite spraying for the same amount of time I kept thinking I didn't have enough product under my left (compressed) arm, but there was no difference in the amount of protection so I can only assume they were actually the same quantities.
The big can didn't have a lid whereas the smaller one did because you could 'lock' the bigger can against accidental spraying (maybe a similar device on the compressed can would've stopped me dropping the little cap on the floor so many times?!)
I didn't bother downloading the free app to count the days, I'm more than capable of doing that for myself!
I'm very impressed with the length of time the smaller can lasted. I was sceptical at the beginning, and as long as you fight the urge to spray for longer it should last every bit as long as the bigger can.
Other notable positives regarding the size is that the smaller can fits into my handbag and my bathroom cabinet, and won't take up as much space in my holiday luggage! Result!

Very Light Ivory Blonde

I have long, thick hair and I always need two boxes whenever I colour it, so to get round this I chose to simply colour the underneath. That way, if it all went horribly wrong at least my usual colour was still on the top. That was the 'Plan' in any case...

I sectioned off the top layers out of the way and read through the instructions several times before I began. It's always a worry using a different dye to your usual brand as there's so many things that could potentially go wrong.

The instructions were very clear and easy to read. I loved the little comb you use to make sure all of your hair is coated. I chose not to use the gloves provided, simply because I can never get on with them. I found it awkward squeezing the colourant from the aluminium tube into the mixing bottle - this would make far more sense to be in another bottle. The product did look a little 'lumpy' despite me giving it a good shake, but it smelt ok (not too strong). It did take a bit of getting used to and my hair got a bit tangled at times, but I persevered. In fact, after about 10 minutes I still had quite a bit of mixed dye left in the bottle, and as the hair I'd already treated hadn't turned a bright orange I threw caution to the wind and covered my hair all over.

This is the first hair dye I've ever used that's managed to completely coat all of my hair!

I left it on for 30 minutes and gently washed it before applying the conditioner. I wasn't too keen on the conditioner bottle as you couldn't stand it up and the tiny cap was fiddly (especially with wet hands). However, the conditioner itself was lovely to use and made my hair feel nice and soft.

The verdict:
I was very pleasantly surprised by this product. A little goes a long way and the result is a natural colour with no orangey bits. I wouldn't call it 'luminous' (as per the blurb on the box) but it's covered the greys and was simple to use.

Would I buy this product? Absolutely!

Warburtons Deli Thins…

  • A coupon for a FREE sample of Warburtons Deli Thins, redeemable at Tesco
  • A selection of money off pass along coupons to share with friends and family. Redeemable at Tesco
  • A leaflet with lots of information about Warburtons and Deli Thins
  • A selection of delicious recipes to get your imagination firing about how to use Deli Thins
My BzzAgent Envelope arrived this morning, and here’s the contents:

There’s a £1.60 coupon for myself and 8 x 60p coupons for my friends.
Hmm… given that the Deli Thins cost £1.60 per pack I might struggle to find enough people to agree to pay £1 towards testing this product (only one coupon is redeemable per transaction)…especially as it’s only available in Tesco (and many of my friends shop elsewhere).
I’d question the kit claim that there’d be ” lots of information about Warburtons and Deli Thins” and the “selection of delicious recipes to get your imagination firing about how to use Deli Thins” appears to be a single recipe on the back of the promo A5 for Tuna Nicoise Thins.
The range consists of:
Seeded with olive oil.
Honey Wheat.
Mixed herb and olive oil.
Product information from The Official Warburtons Website:

My opinions:
My local Tesco only had one variety of Deli Thins in stock; seeded with olive oil; so those were the ones I bought! I was surprised at how small they are as I was expecting something the size of a regular slice of bread. There’s 6 thins in each pack.
The pack was a little tricky to open, so I ended up using scissors (maybe it’s just me?)

I’m a vegetarian so these were my sandwich filling choices:
Mozzarella and cherry tomatoes.

The product itself is very soft although it didn’t really taste of anything obvious. This was ok as a snack but after one round of sandwiches (1 thin) I was still hungry. The pack instructions say to use within 2 days after opening, so I ended up having 3 of them in one go, but at 113 calories per thin anyone on a diet would need to watch themselves.

Sliced bananas.
The filling does tend to fall out of the sides quite easily. One way round this is to flatten the thins and squash the contents before eating. (Be careful when doing this with tomatoes as they tend to squirt out the side at high velocity!)

Toasted, with peanut butter.
I tried them out in the toaster and they worked quite well, although 1 slice browned slightly quicker than the other. Spread with peanut butter they were actually quite tasty – success!

Although this experiment has been very interesting, and I’ve had an opportunity to try out something new to eat,  I’m not entirely sure I’d bother to purchase this product.
Additional Information:
Allergy advice on the wrapper states: This product is produced in a bakery which uses milk.
In the list of ingredients, the items in bold point out potential allergens;
Wheat Flour, Wheat Gluten, Barley Malt and Soya Flour.
If freezing – freeze on day of purchase.
Store in a cool dry place, ideally not refrigerated (spotted after I’d placed it in the fridge all day!)
Vegetarian Society Approved.
Seeds (in the seeded with olive oil Deli Thins): poppy, millet, sunflower, pumpkin and brown linseeds.

John Frieda Frizz Ease...

As a mature female my hair has become more coarse with age. I don’t help matters by having it professionally bleached to within an inch of it’s life on a regular basis, so when offered the chance to road test Frizz Ease products I grabbed the opportunity with both hands. I’m always on the lookout for anything that can help to turn my long, dry, frizzy locks into something more sleek and glorious without the use of GHDs (which are simply a temporary fix and probably do more damage than I dare imagine) and reading the blurb about Frizz Ease I was cautiously optimistic.

Once signing up for the product test I went to the campaign home page, where I discovered:
“Agents who opted for a smooth style get:
Four FREE full-size items: Frizz Ease® Smooth Start® Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner, Frizz Ease® Original 6 Effects Serum and Frizz Ease® Secret Agent® Perfecting Crème
Pass-along sachets to share with girlfriends”.

On a wet and windy Thursday morning the postman arrived with my eagerly-awaited package, and I was like a child at Christmas!

My box was all taped up with fancy bee tape, which was only adding to the excitement (no, I don’t get out much).

When I opened the box I was greeted by a card with brief instructions (basically, use the product, visit the BzzAgent website and then start talking about it).

My box contained:

1 x Smooth Start Conditioner (250ml) – RRP (March 2014) £5.89
1 x Secret Agent Touch-Up Creme (100ml) – RRP (March 2014) £6.00
1 x Frizz Ease Original 6 Effects Serum (50ml)  - RRP (March 2014) £6.29
8 x Sample packs of 3 sachets (shampoo, conditioner & serum).

Here’s the official blurb from the John Frieda website:

I will now start dishing out the samples to my friends...

This translucent white cream has a slight scent. I can’t think what it is, but it’s quite nice. It’s quick to lather up and the millions of tiny bubbles feel slippery as you wash your hair. Seemed to rinse out ok.

This white cream has an even fainter smell, similar to the shampoo. It rubs in well, although it did take a little longer than usual to wash out of my hair, possibly because I used a bit too much the first time.

I haven’t the faintest idea why it’s packaged in this way, other than to bump up the price! The red plastic test-tube filled with serum is inside a clear outer plastic container with no base. Also, the pump needed a few attempts to get the clear gel flowing (as it was the first time I’d used it).
As per directions, I only used a small amount on the ends of soaking wet hair. I wasn’t sure what this added to the procedure as my dry split ends actually felt softer after the shampoo & conditioner than they did once I’d applied the serum, although admittedly it was much easier to get my detangler comb through my wet hair prior to drying.

I thought I’d done something wrong when my hair frizzed up so badly once I got my hairdryer on it, but eventually it settled down. Once fully dried my hair actually did feel smoother to the touch and looked a bit straighter than usual; not ‘GDH straight’ but certainly not the usual frizzy mess. My hair felt lighter and blew around my face at the merest puff of wind outside. The scent of the shampoo/conditioner was quite noticeable once my hair was dry, and it was a clean, fresh smell. My split ends didn’t feel as dry/brittle, so the serum must’ve worked.

After venturing outside on a damp day the frizz had returned, so I decided to test the touch up creme. This white cream has a pleasant smell and disappears quickly into the hair. This seemed to help to tame the frizz again and left my hair smelling fresh.

The verdict?

The shampoo is deceptive, a little goes a long way, and you don’t need as much of the conditioner as you think either. This actually makes these products quite cost effective. I wasn’t too keen on the serum to begin with but I did find it helped with my split ends. The creme is very useful for quickly taming any returning frizz and all products left my hair smelling freshly washed, even a few days afterwards.

About this Blog...

I’ve recently discovered a great website called BzzAgent

BzzAgents get sent free (or reduced price) products and then discuss them with friends and family members to create a ‘BZZ’.

I’ll be using this blog to review the products that I’m involved with. I will, of course, be 100% honest with my reviews; if I don’t like something I will say so!
